APCOP-V Guideline for Oral and Poster Presenters
Oral
Presentation
- Standard Oral:12 minutes (10 minutes of presentation + 2 minutes of Q&A)
- Short Oral: 7 minutes (5 minutes of presentation presenting + 2 minutes of Q&A.
- A remote (for slide transitions) with a laser pointer will be available to facilitate your presentation.
- More detail about the sessions will be provided to all Oral presenters.
Recommended visual aid
- Powerpoint slides in 16:9 aspect ratio
- To minimise transition time between talks, all presentation slides will be run using the venue computer (Windows OS). You may do a quick test run of your slides during breaks before your talk.
- Upload your slides (in .pptx or .pdf format) to the designated shared folder before your talk. We strongly recommend all Oral presenters to upload their slides at least one day before their scheduled talk. If this is not possible, at the latest, upload your slides before the end of the session prior to yours. For example, if your talk is scheduled in the session after morning tea, upload your talk before morning tea at the latest.
- Detail of the shared folder will be made available to all Oral presenters.
- Consider having a back-up copy of your slides available during the day of your presentation.
Oral Prize(s) for Students and ECRs
- If you are a student or an early postdoc (less than 5 years since PhD), your presentation is automatically in contention for Oral prize(s). Your presentation will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
- Four criteria (in equal weighting) will be assessed: (a) content of your talk, (b) delivery and clarity of presentation, (c) time-limit compliance, and (d) capacity to field questions succinctly.
Poster
Poster presentations enable informal discussions of your work with other delegates, without the strict time limit expected in an Oral presentation.
Recommended size
- A0 (841 × 1189 mm) in portrait orientation. Posters larger than A0, or in A0-size landscape orientation will not fit the display board.
Mounting and display
- Posters will be displayed from Monday morning through lunchtime on Wednesday.
- Set up: 8–9am 4 Nov, or during the morning tea break. Adhesive Velcro dots will be provided at the venue.
- Take down: lunchtime 6 Nov. Posters not taken down by 1:20pm will be removed without notice.
Guide for a good poster
- Keep text brief, concise, and to the point.
- Use clear, self-explanatory captions for figures and/or tables.
- Avoid overcrowding the poster with too much detail.
- Make sure that text and visuals are easily readable from 1 meter away.
Presentation
- Each presenter is expected to stand by and present their poster during the scheduled session on Monday (4 November) or Tuesday (5 November). Check your allocated session in the Program.
- If you are a student or an early postdoc (less than 5 years since PhD), your poster is automatically in contention for Poster prize(s). Your poster and your presentation will be evaluated by a panel of judges.
